Chandigarh, Aug 23 (UNI) In a move to enhance the welfare of differently-abled employees, the Punjab Government has announced their exemption from night duties.
Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development, issued directives to all department heads to refrain from assigning night shifts to visually impaired and physically challenged employees.
Dr. Kaur highlighted that the decision stems from recent discussions with associations representing differently-abled employees, who raised concerns about safety and commuting challenges during night hours.
The move reflects the government’s commitment to addressing these issues with empathy and prioritizing employee well-being.
Additionally, the minister emphasized compliance with Sections 3 and 20 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, which mandate a barrier-free environment in government offices.
Prior instructions have been issued to ensure accessible and conducive workplaces for differently-abled staff. Under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government remains dedicated to upholding the rights of differently-abled individuals and fostering their empowerment through inclusive policies.
Dr. Kaur noted that this decision is expected to boost the morale and reinforce a sense of dignity and security among differently-abled employees in government service.
